Are You Preparing to Live Longer?
The physical changes of aging are inevitable. Bone and joint healthproblems are among the most prevalent and debilitating health challenges Americans face. Take an active part in your own healthcare.
-Exercise to keep your joints flexible, the muscles around your joints strong.
-Warm up before sporting activities. A good warmup gives your body time to adjust to the demands of exercise.
-Check your vitamin D levels. Start supplementation if warranted. Vitamin D is necessary for strong bones and muscles. A simple blood test can reveal your vitamin D level.
-Keep your bones strong with weight-bearing activities: brisk walking, jogging, hiking; team sports; dancing, step aerobics, climbing; and racquet sports.
-Be aware of the loads you carry and how you carry them. Lighten the load you carry each day (backpack, luggage or purse) to avoid of neck, back and shoulder injuries.
